The Grand Hope - Rutgers University NJ
Hits : 125

Increasing awareness regarding adaptive sports at universities across the nation. We also believe that the Rutgers community would benefit from the inclusion of recreational activities that represent the diverse capabilities of all individuals, more specifically those with physical disabilities.

Our fraternity has recently partnered with the W.M. Keck Center for Collaborative Neuroscience on Busch Campus to provide support and awareness for those with spinal cord injuries. The W.M. Keck Center is preparing for their upcoming groundbreaking clinical trials, the goal of which is to regenerate the ability to walk in individuals with complete spinal cord injuries by implanting stem cells into the site of the injury. The W.M. Keck Center for Collaborative Neuroscience recently conducted a clinical trial, which resulted in 75% of participants walking with minimal assistance and 60% regaining bladder and bowel function – a first in history. These clinical trials that were held in China are transitioning into the United States, and the Alpha Psi Chapter is currently aiding in spreading awareness and raising funds for this noble cause.

The New York Warriors and Philadelphia Magee Eagles wheelchair quad rugby teams will play at the College Avenue Gymnasium on April 18, 2019. The event would include interactive mini-games/clinics for the Rutgers community, speakers such as Dr. Wise Young and Eric LeGrand, and ultimately the headlining match-up. This collaboration would be in the best interest of all parties involved. All proceeds would go directly to the W.M. Keck Center for Collaborative Neuroscience.
